Eligibility & Age Requirements

Who can open a Level Up Checking Account?
Anyone between the ages of 13-22 can open a Level Up Checking Account. There are no credit checks required for any accountholder.
Can minors open this account on their own?
Minors ages 13-17 must have an adult joint owner to open the account, but the minor must be designated as the primary accountholder.

Account Opening & Funding

What is the Level Up deposit bonus?
EFCU will automatically credit $25 to your account after it's been open for 30 days - it's our way of helping you get started! This bonus applies to new accounts only (account conversions are not eligible).

Debit Card & Features

Can I get a debit card?
Yes! You can get a debit card starting at age 13.
Is overdraft protection available?
Courtesy Pay (overdraft protection) is not offered on Level Up accounts. However, if you're 18 or older and request this feature, we can help you convert to our Rewards checking account which does offer Courtesy Pay.

Grades Deposit Program

How does the Grades Deposit program work?
We reward good grades with our Get Paid for Good Grades program! Here's how it works:
  • $5 for each A (or A equivalent for elementary students) for any minor account
  • $10 for each A for checking accounts with debit cards
  • Eligible at the end of fall and spring semesters (not for 9-week report cards)
  • Available through age 18 (college grades don't qualify)
  • This program applies to any minor account at EFCU, not just Level Up Checking
When can I claim my grades deposit?
You can submit grades for deposit at the end of each fall and spring semester, and you have until the new school year begins to submit grades from the current school year. Nine-week report cards don't qualify - only semester grades count.
Do college grades count for the deposit program?
No, the grades deposit program is only available through age 18 and doesn't include college coursework.

Can I access my account online?
Yes! You'll have full access to online and mobile banking to manage your account 24/7.
Are there monthly fees?
The specific fee structure isn't detailed here, but you can contact us or visit a branch for complete fee information.
What happens if I need overdraft protection?
While Courtesy Pay isn't available on Level Up accounts, we can discuss converting to our Rewards checking account if you're 18 or older and need this feature.

Getting Started

How do I open my Level Up Checking Account?
You can open your account online or visit any EFCU Financial branch.

Disclosure:

EFCU Financial membership eligibility required. Must be 13-22 years of age to qualify. Minors must have a parent or guardian as joint accountholder on the Level Up account. Highest attainable grade on the report card pertains to each individual semester-end report card grading scale (including A or highest-grade equivalent to an A). Any EFCU Financial minor account can earn $5.00 per A/highest-grade equivalent to an A; and, $10.00 per A/highest-grade equivalent to an A for Level Up checking with a debit card. Copy of official semester-end report card required. Report card must be in youth accountholder's name, school name, and date or year to qualify for rewards. Grades may be submitted for the current school year until the following school year begins. Report cards are accepted for either of the major semesters, such as May-end and December-end, or terms, such as spring or fall terms. Grade payouts exclude college students. The one-time $25.00 deposit will be paid after the Level Up account has been opened for 30 days. Courtesy Pay is not permitted on Level Up account cards; using a credit card or savings account as overdraft protection is permitted at the parent/guardian's request.
